LP staffs attend Pre-Medical Start-Up 2021

Micah Carub is a current 3rd year BS Medical Laboratory Science Student of Cagayan State University - College of Allied Health Sciences. She is also the Senior Literary Editor of Likha Pahinarya.

Five delegates from Likha Pahinarya (LP) attended the recently conducted Pre-Medical Start-Up 2021 held from August 23, 25, and 27 via Zoom Telecommunications Conference.

Jointly organized by the Alliance of Public Health Advocates, Online SDG Youth Action Forum, UP Health Science and Pre-Medicine Society, and UPLB Society of Pre-Med Students through the Alliance of Philippine Pre-Medical Societies (APPSoc), it aims to empower willing Filipino students from various undergraduate programs to organize pre-medical societies or other groups with similar goals, to become agents of transformational change within their institutions.

Micah Esther C. Carub, Karima Lex A. Caleda, John Lee M. Paguirigan, and Natasha Trixie L. Paguirigan under the leadership of Renz Louie E. Galanto, the Editor-in-Chief of Likha Pahinarya, composed the Team LP and represented the Cagayan State University - Andrews Campus.

Other participating schools include Cavite State University – Imus Campus, Central Mindanao University, Emilio Aguinaldo College, Laguna University, Mindanao State University – General Santos Campus, Lyceum of the Philippines – Batangas Campus, Liceo de Cagayan University, Notre Dame of Dadiangas University, Nueva Ecija University of Science & Technology, Our Lady of Fatima University, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, Polytechnic University of Philippines – Mabini Campus, Remedios Trinidad Romualdez Medical Foundation, Rizal Technological University – Mandaluyong (Boni) Campus, Southern Luzon State University, Sultan Kudarat State University – ACCESS Campus, University of Northern Philippines , University of the Philippines Mindanao, and University of Visayas Main Campus, totaling to 20 participating schools and 100 aspiring future physicians in the Philippines.

The said workshop commenced with a half-day orientation sessions that comprised lectures from pools of experienced and knowledgeable resource speakers from various national organizations. 

 

​

Jefson Romeo Felix, Samuel Madriaga, Mark Jacinto, Francine Geluz, Jemuel Joshua Z. Austria, and Jann Adriel N. Nisperos were the resource speakers. 


 

WORKSHOP SESSIONS

 

The first day of the program, August 23, began with a discussion dedicated to establishing the participants' foundation in developing their respective Pre-Medical Societies.

The informative conversation helped the participants create a firm basis on what they were going to establish, which includes an advocacy that is sensitive to the needs of their communities.

 

​

Meanwhile, the workshop's second day, August 25, was focused on various aspects of managing an organization and communicating solutions through projects in the context of the ongoing pandemic. 

 

​

On the workshop's last day, August 27, it was focused on strengthening the organization's identity and branding through a well-thought social engagement plan.  

 

​

Activities were carried out throughout the day to assess their skill sets and fill any gaps that needed to be filled.

 

 

PRESENTATIONS AND AWARDS

 

During the sessions, participants had the opportunity to enhance their abilities and identify areas for development through a 3-minute presentation of their papers. Team LP was given the opportunity to present their three papers.

Along with Team LP, the groups representing the University of Visayas – Main Campus, University of Northern Philippines, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, and Mindanao State University also presented on the first day (August 23).

 

​

Seven more groups joined Team Likha Pahinarya in presenting their paper on the second day (August 25). These are the Southern Luzon State University, Lyceum of the Philippines – Batangas, Cavite State University – Imus Campus. University of the Philippines – Mindanao, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, University of Northern Philippines, and Mindanao State University – General Santos Campus.

Lastly, as per the request of the organizers, every participating school presented a one-minute flash talk on the last day (August 27). Transcripts of each speech will be made available on Likha Pahinarya's official website, www.likhapahinarya.com

 

​

LP was also awarded as one the Most Participative Group during the workshop placing 3rd overall alongside Mindanao State University – General Santos Campus (2nd place) and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (1st place).
